Baby came so suddenly that she was born in the doorway of the birthing room, as mom tried to make her way to the birthing tub. And in that moment of shock, midwife and nurse flying into the room at my call, this stunningly beautiful birth team came together as perfectly as a masterpiece. Mother and father together reaching and guiding baby up to mother’s chest. Grandmother overwhelmed with love for her own daughter whispering words of praise. Nurse and midwife expertly supporting, guiding, and offering space to the family becoming, the family uniting. And me, a breathless witness to the most beautiful piece of artwork unfolding before my very eyes.
